Since we’re only at the boat for a long weekend, in which two of the days are being taken by flying back and forth to Louisville, we spent just the morning in Portsmouth going over the to-do list with the marina and then planning for our own hands-on spring maintenance. They really pack them in at the boatyard but fortunately they left enough room for us to squeeze in a ladder.
Once we were satisfied we had our work list in order we took a drive to Portland stopping on the way in Kennebunkport, Maine. Looking out across the Atlantic it was hard to imagine that in a couple months we’d be about 3 miles offshore cruising our way up to Portland.
After some lunch it was back on the road to see where our “water-front home” might be this summer. It’s actually a marina in South Portland, just across Portland Harbor so it’s about as water-front you can get when you’re staying on a boat. The docks looked like a ghost town since pretty much everyone was hauled out for the winter, but it was worth the trip just to get comfortable with our future surroundings.
After our brief tour of the docks we spent the rest of the day in Portland checking out “Old Town” which was packed full of seafood choices from shacks to upscale restaurants. You could hardly go wrong since the catch was coming straight off the dock, and we weren’t disappointed.
