We returned to South Portland for some final cruises on Casco Bay before having HIPPOKAMPOS hauled out for the winter. Distance: 41.5 nautical miles
As we left the harbor we noticed cruise ships were arriving and unloading their passengers to tour Portland. We felt good that our timing was such that we avoided the crowds. While underway we were surprised to see Bill Full, the listing broker for Pilgrim 40. Bill gave as a wave and proceeded to take photos of HIPPOKAMPOS underway. It’s always nice to see your vessel as others see it and the photos didn’t disappoint.
When rounding Clapboard Island the Westerbeke main engine quit while on port tank so we switched to starboard aft tank and was underway again. Later, we had the marina check out the fuel system and found the pickup tube in the port tank we sucking in air so we had it replaced. We also changed out one of the 30A shore power cords because of burnt female socket.
The next day we took one more final cruise (really… it’s the last one) to Whaleboat Island. Having the fuel tank serviced was a good excuse to do a sea trial to be sure all was good before calling it a season. Instead of returning to our usual slip we took a slip just across from the wall from the travel lift to prepare for the winterization process.
