Eclipse Anchorage

Path of totallity directly over our heads.

This is what we came for… the viewing of the solar eclipse. We met up with our boating buddies, Rick and Monica on their Mainship trawler Moni Jean, at Green Turtle Bay. We took our 2-boat flotilla to Nickell Branch to find an anchorage for the afternoon and were mostly to ourselves, which you can be sure was a stark contrast to what land-based viewers were experiencing. Since there was time to kill before the moon made its way overhead we rafted up for lunch and a swim. Then it was game-on with the solar sunglasses as we watched the moon and sun do their thing. The sudden mid-day darkness had the wildlife confused and birds scattered to their hiding places. In what seemed like just minutes it was all over and daylight was back, but not without leaving some dramatic sky paintings behind to extend the experience.
